We place great emphasis on the practicality and relevance of our professional and leadership development pathways. From our Newly Qualified Teacher Induction programme partnering with other local partnerships where appropriate and our specially designed courses, to our range of NPQ Leadership programmes, we provide a comprehensive professional development offer. Furthermore, our Specialist Leader of Education and senior teachers design and implement tailored support packages for schools in a wide variety of areas.
- trainee teachers learn from the best teachers, supported by a culture of coaching and mentoring
- professional development is school-based and classroom focused – teachers, support staff and leaders improve through exposure to excellent practice within and beyond their immediate school, through observation, mentoring, coaching, practice, reflection and sharing with peers
- talent development and distributed leadership are the norm – staff demonstrating potential are encouraged to lead and are given structured and stretching opportunities to grow and develop
- leaders have local knowledge and can identify where key resources and expertise lie
We guarantee you will be given continuous support and guidance during each stage of your school-based training. Expert teachers and university lecturers will be with you every step of the way, mentoring and steering you towards a positive final result.
You get to be part of a teaching team from day one. We will ensure that you gain invaluable ‘on the job’ training in at least two of our alliance schools so you get the most varied experience to help you succeed in your teaching career.
Get a fantastic grounding that will see you train in specific teaching methods in line with the national curriculum. Alongside training in general primary schools, we also offer the opportunity to spend some of the training in Special Education so you get to experience the full spectrum of primary education.
And a unique ETHOS
Every school in the alliance is committed to a strong ethos which is to place the child at the centre of all that we do. Throughout each day of your training you will see first-hand the importance of developing children in a very nurturing and caring environment.
Thank you for your interest in the Teacher Training Programme and the Tandridge Teaching School Alliance (TTA). You are now one step closer to starting a rewarding and fulfilling career in teaching.
This section shows useful information and links, including an overview of our School Direct programme, how to apply and what you will achieve on graduating.
Training to teach with the TTA will give you an excellent start towards your future teaching career. We have a wealth of experienced, motivated staff working together in a friendly, inspiring environment to make all students feel valued and supported throughout their training.
The programme allows you to be a part of the teaching team from day one and will give you invaluable training in at least two of our alliance schools. You can find a full list of our current alliance partners in the pack.
Unlike a university led PGCE, you select the main school you wish to train in. This means you can ensure the school is the right fit for you. School Direct is a school-led initial teacher training pathway that puts you in control. It offers ‘on-the-job’ training and teacher education. The programme aims to create highly qualified, highly skilled teachers, who are an integral part of a school community.
We believe that all children have the right to an exceptional educational experience. We strive to work together to continually develop teachers and leaders to fulfil this mission.
No matter which partner school in the TTA you apply to, you will join a highly supportive team that will help you develop the confidence to successfully develop as a teacher.
Our trainees have been hugely successful. With 100% of our School Direct trainees achieving Good or Outstanding at the end of the course, we know how to support and develop potential.

At the beginning of a new school year it may be a good time to re appraise your career and vocation. Have you ever considered being a teacher? It is a really great job shaping young people’s lives, great variety each day, opportunities to be creative, and much more.
I would be really pleased to chat to anyone interested in making this career change. Surrey South Farnham SCITT run one year school based training schemes. There could be a possibility of training at St Mary’s or another Tandridge school in the partnership.
