Overview
St Mary’s officially launched a Splash for Cash campaign in the summer of 2021 to raise money to refurbish its 40 year old swimming pool, including covering it over as well as improving all the associated facilities such as showers, changing rooms and a waiting area. It was planned that the improvements would not only benefit the pupils by making swimming available all year round but would also benefit local people by allowing community use of the pool. Allowing a wider use will support the national issue of large numbers of children who haven’t learnt to swim because of the Covid 19 pandemic and will continue the mission to ensure that the school and its facilities benefit the whole community.
Being a Church School the land on which the buildings stand (including the pool), is owned by the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education (SDBE). The SDBE has approved of the project and is happy to lend its support.
The total cost has been estimated to be £145,000, of which the School has identified about £70,000 from its current budget that would help start off the fundraising.
Fundraising has progressed with the Friends of the School organising many events and individuals contributing as well but there is still a lot of money to raise.
The School is hoping that more money can be raised from grant making bodies, match funding from employers or donations from benefactors.
